Cartesian Caramel
This shader node group plays flipbooks by offsetting the UV map.
Set the rows and columns to match your flipbook, and the change the time value to play the animation.
The time can be per frame, or a 0-1 range for the entire animation.
The time can be set with an attribute, which works well with particles.
This will work in Blender 4.1 or later.
